We are experienced professionals who all share the same passion for the tourism industry. And we have something else in common: We all know what fernweh feels like. Combining the words fern (distance) and weh (ache or pain), fernweh can be roughly translated as a longing for the new and faraway. It’s an ache you can feel and is the opposite of heimweh (homesickness). People often associate it with wanderlust or getting itchy feet, but it means more than that. It’s a desire to not only travel to faraway places but to dive deeper into another world. It’s more than just a need to be on the road; it’s an actual pain.

It’s our job to create that desire and turn it into bookings.

Andreas Schunck

Founder & Managing Director

Andreas discovered his passion for travelling in 2008, after completing a semester abroad in Melbourne. After graduating from university in 2010 with a Diploma in Business Administration and Finance, he decided to travel extensively throughout the Asia Pacific region. It was during this time that found his calling in the tourism industry whilst working for tourism operators in Australia and New Zealand.

Back in Germany, Andreas took up a position with The Conjoint Marketing Group as the Marketing Manager for Tourism Western Australia, allowing him to develop a strong network within the tourism industry. Andreas then joined Karisma GmbH in 2016 as Marketing Manager for Tourism NT before moving to Lieb Management alongside his client in 2018. For Tourism NT, he developed and launched a number of very successful projects such as the ‘Australia’s Wild Sides’ initiative and the ‚Welcome to Hotel Outback‘ campaign. In his role as Senior Account & Digital Marketing Manager for Lieb Management, Andreas was also responsible for the development of integrated marketing strategies for a range of international destinations and tourism brands.

In 2020, he went on to set up New Age Marketing in Munich. His areas of expertise include account management, brand positioning, integrated marketing and digital advertising solutions, trade relations and strategic partnerships. Sabrina Hasenbein

PR Manager

Sabrina was born into a family of travelers – her curiosity for other countries and cultures was captured while listening to her grandmother’s stories about crossing the Atlantic with a ship and her father’s travel adventures all over the world. Sabrina went to the University of Passau and graduated in “Language, Economy and Culture Studies”. Internships in London and Montevideo inspired her to work internationally.

In 2002, Sabrina started working for Mangum PR/News Plus – as a coordinator, she supported the account managers for South Australia, Tourism Queensland and several US/Canada clients. In this position, Sabrina accompanied fam/media trips to both Australian destinations. After her promotion, Sabrina was fully responsible for clients such as Ontario Tourism and the Seychelles Tourism Board. After spending 1,5 years in New York working for the incoming agency New World Travel, Sabrina returned to Germany and worked both, as an employee (PR Manager & Sales Marketing Manager & Social Media) and a freelance copy writer. Among Sabrina’s agency clients were international destinations such as Oregon, Hawai‘i, Puerto Rico and currently the Northern Territory, hotels (e.g. explora Lodges in Chile, COMO Hotels and Resorts), DMCs (Creole Travel Services), attractions (e.g. The Broadway Collection) and tour operators (Gernreisen). As a freelance, Sabrina contributes articles to online and print media and writes B2B and B2C copy. She has also published a travel guide at a renowned German publishing house.

Sabrina enjoys all aspects of storytelling – from collecting great stories and pitching them to the right media to seeing the final result in the form of a feature that makes readers/listeners/viewers want to pack their bags and experience the moments that the author was truly captivated by.

Katja Bockwinkel

Travel Trade Manager

It was always pretty clear to Katja that after finishing her internship as a travel consultant, she would embark on a backpacking trip around Australia. After saving every cent and taking on extra jobs, she was able to make that dream come true.

Little did she know that the dream of escaping would actually influence the rest of her life, as the combination of being a travel consultant and a first trip to Australia helped her decide her future career path. After returning home she took up a position as a Marketing Assistant for the Western Australia Tourism Commission, and since then her passion for Australia has flourished with over 20 years of experience gained working primarily for Tourism NT.

Katja is an expert in the travel trade distribution system and has a long-standing relationship with the European travel industry, especially in the German-speaking markets. Completing a diploma in Event Management and further qualifications as an educated trainer has opened up a world of diverse opportunities, and allowed Katja to gain valuable insights in areas such as trade relations, cooperative marketing campaigns, trade advertising, trade media partnerships, event organization and trade training solutions.

In her free time, Katja and her husband are always looking for a remedy to help contain their ‘fernweh’ and spend every possible minute in their campervan exploring Germany and its neighbouring countries.

Katharina Dörr

Senior Account Manager

Katharina discovered her passion for travelling and exploring foreign countries back in 1997 during an apprenticeship at a travel agency. After working there for three years, she took on various positions at tour operators and product departments across Germany. Her wanderlust continued to demand attention however and as such she decided to move to New York, where she worked for an inbound operator in sales and product development.

After almost 10 years in the Big Apple, Katharina decided to move back to Germany, on the condition that she continued to work with foreign countries and cultures. Munich became her new home and a position at Lieb Management followed, where she represented the Hawai’i Tourism Authority and VISIT FLORIDA.

With her extensive experience and network, Katharina has long-standing relationships within the European travel industry, especially throughout the German-speaking markets. She thrives when tasked with organizing B2B and B2C marketing campaigns and has run several sales missions and roadshows.

In her spare time, Katharina enjoys hiking in the German Alps, and exploring new activities and restaurants with friends in Munich.
